LETTERS TO THE PRESS FROM CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

British Weekly

London, England British Weekly

I have read with appreciation the article entitled "When Sickness Assails Them" in a recent issue of the British Weekly, with its plea for renewed recognition of the healing ministry of the Master, Christ Jesus.

The author of the article will, I am sure, permit me to say that his reference to Christian Science requires some comment.

Christian Science teaches that God is infinite and that all that He creates must be in consonance with His infinite goodness; further, that anything which seems to be real but is inconsistent with God's infinite perfection can have no true reality.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in her book "Unity of Good" (pp. 9, 10): "What is the cardinal point of the difference in my metaphysical system? This: that by knowing the unreality of disease, sin, and death, you demonstrate the allness of God. This difference wholly separates my system from all others. The reality of these so-called existences I deny, because they are not to be found in God, and this system is built on Him as the sole cause."
