Christian Science came to our home about seventy years ago through the healing of my father. He was suffering from a brain disease, and the doctors, after finding themselves unable to help him, stated that he would either die or become violently insane within six months. Although my parents knew nothing of Christian Science and had no faith that it could help him, as a last resort they asked a Christian Science practitioner to call. After the second treatment my father felt some improvement, and in two weeks he was completely healed. For many years thereafter he successfully carried on a large business and later devoted his time to the healing practice of Christian Science.

This healing was the beginning of my family's complete divorcement from reliance on materia medica. Understanding of the truths of God and man, taught in Christian Science, resulted in the healing of many diseases, among them pleurisy, inflammatory rheumatism, abscessed teeth, mastoiditis, lumbago, a severe case of influenza, catarrh, stomach trouble, and typhoid fever.

At one time I fell, striking my wrist hard against a concrete curb. At first I could not use my forearm or hold anything as heavy as an empty cup in my hand. When in a week I had not met the problem myself, I asked a practitioner for help; for although I could again move my wrist, it was very painful to do so and I could feel that something was out of place. I was tempted to have an X ray taken, but when the thought came to me that Jesus had been tempted too, I resisted, knowing that divine Love supports us in our reliance upon God. In about ten days I could use my hand freely, and soon the wrist felt as firm as before.
