When a kind friend led me to Christian Science in 1934, a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, was lent to me. After studying it for two days I realized that I should have my own copy for daily study, so I purchased a Bible and the textbook. As I was leaving the Reading Room, the librarian said to me: "you are taking home a great treasure today. It will bring you a great deal of happiness."

I began to study the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly early in the morning each day. Although I had to leave home at a very early hour to reach my place of work, I arose at four o'clock and read the entire Lesson. I was so uplifted and sustained by this spiritual food that I can truly say it was a God-given treasure that I took home that day. Mrs. Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p.307), "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies."

I soon became a member of a branch church, and shortly before the Second World War, I had the wonderful opportunity of class instruction. My endeavor was constantly to learn more about God and to grow in understanding, that I might be equipped spiritually.
