"He that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty" (Matt. 13:23).
Before I became interested in Christian Science, I had been very bitter towards what I thought it to be. I had judged it solely by a few Christian Scientists whom I knew, and I was measuring them against a personal sense of perfection.
I entertained no doubts that Christian Science could heal, because, although I did not understand how the healing took place, I had witnessed my husband's recovery, through the work of a practitioner, from inflammatory rheumatism and chronic tonsillitis over twenty-three years before; but at that time neither of us felt the need of divine guidance.
