FROM ANNUAL REPORTS OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

Progress in Education and Radio Activities

Germany (United States Zone)

This Committee has been granted the legal rights of a corporation under the public law. Making use of those rights, the Committee presented before the Ministry of Culture in Munich a motion to permit the Christian Science churches of Munich to hold Bible study on weekdays outside of public schools. The motion carried, and children of Christian Scientists in Munich are now exempted from participation in regular religious instruction in the schools. Instead, they are taught Bible lessons in accordance with the outline of Bible study for weekday religious education recommended by The Mother Church. Instruction is given twice a week by a teacher who has been certified by the Ministry of Culture.

From time to time we have received requests from schools or from individual teachers for old copies of The Christian Science Monitor of the same date, to be used for purposes of instruction in English. These requests have been forwarded to the literature distribution committees of the local branch churches. Where no church organizations exist, Monitors have been supplied by this Committee.
