GOD'S MAN IS SPIRITUAL

The Bible records three instances where spiritually-minded men rose above the sight of mortals without passing through the stage called death. These were Enoch, Elijah, and Christ Jesus (Genesis 5:24, II Kings 2:11, 12, and Luke 24:50-53). The Bible also tells of the raising of the dead and of the healing of many physical diseases without material aid and counter to so-called material laws. These things point to the fact that man is not material, or mortal, but is spiritual.

The revelation of man's wholly spiritual nature is set forth by Mary Baker Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." There she writes in "the scientific statement of being" (p. 468): "Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual."

In order to understand man, we must first understand that "God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love" (ibid., p. 465). These terms identify the one God, and they are therefore synonymous and interchangeable.
