Over three years ago I became quite ill with double pneumonia and pleurisy. My wife, a Christian Scientist, asked me if I preferred to have a doctor or a practitioner. I replied by giving the name of a practitioner whom I knew. My condition seemed so urgent that my wife also called a Christian Science nurse to care for me.

On the fourth day all the physical manifestations of the disease disappeared, but it left a mental confusion which lasted for about two weeks. This period of confusion proved to be my greatest blessing, for it was during this time that a moral healing occurred. Prior to this illness I indulged in alcoholic drinks daily except on Sundays. I did not drink for its effects, but because I liked the taste of liquor. For forty years I had been a slave to this habit. When I was able to go out, a member of my family offered me a drink, thinking it would stimulate me. I accepted his offer, but I found that both the smell and the taste of the liquor were very offensive, and I am glad to say that there has never been a return of the desire for such indulgence.

Following the healing of the diseases mentioned and of the liquor habit, I was also healed of hemorrhoids which had annoyed me for thirty years. However, this healing did not come until the day that I did aside the medicine which I had been applying regularly.
