TRUE AMBITION
Commendable ambition to serve mankind is a happy and progressive achievement when one's plan is formed by regular study and faithful application of Christian Science. Unless one has divine help, the good objective is often smothered in fallible, tiring personal effort, obscured by wasteful habits of personal sense, or bogged down in selfish desire for fame and fortune. Accurate instruction and genuine promise for success are found in the following words, which God spoke to Joshua (1:8): "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."
Christian Science unfolds the guidance we pray for by revealing that the intelligent activity of omniscient Mind and the unfailing power of ever-present Love are included in man as the endless reflection of God, who is all Life. Gratitude grows for the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, as we recognize them to be a well-spring of revelation, illumining the "book of the law," or the Holy Scriptures. The significance of God's Word to Joshua is correlated in the words of our revered Leader, who in writing of the lesson of love in "Miscellaneous Writings" says (p. 207), "Learn its purpose; and in hope and faith, where heart meets heart reciprocally blest, drink with me the living waters of the spirit of my life-purpose,—to impress humanity with the genuine recognition of practical, operative Christian Science."
Here is real ambition with ideals high enough to attract all ages of endeavor. And in Christ Jesus' command (Matt. 6:33), "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you," we have the recipe for successful living which will impress mankind. It states for all to understand that the seeking of spiritual thoughts before all else brings good into human experience.
