THE WAY TO PEACE

"Peace, peace; when there is no peace." More than two thousand years ago, the Jewish prophet Jeremiah stated his appraisal of the people's false security in those words (6:14). Today, men and nations seem to be no nearer the golden age of peace than when that ancient observation was made. True, a little sunlight appears here and there. Alert thinkers in every age not only have known the causes of strife among men, but have had practical knowledge of the remedy. individually and collectively they have been urging in various ways that mankind try a new method—a spiritual plan for peace. Human methods, however sincere, have yet to achieve complete success. But, wherever tried, God's plan for peace has never failed to destroy its enemies, who, all too frequently, ride roughshod over the minds and the bodies of humanity.

"Great peace have they which love thy law" was the encouraging promise of the Psalmist to the men of his day (Ps. 119:165). That same promise holds today for all who love, understand, and obey God's law. In interpreting the spiritual law, Christian Science teaches mankind that peace of mind, health, and harmony between men and nations can be attained through understanding the ever-presence of the one Mind, or divine consciousness. And so, in his quest for peace, a Christian Scientist learns first to correctly set his compass by the eternal star, the Word of Mind, God. And, like the navigator of a ship, he regularly checks his bearings in order to stay on the course and arrive at the port of harmony. The Scientist takes daily readings from his two master charts—the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. These infallible and indispensable charts point out to every traveler the spiritual beacons along the way. Thus the true course to health, happiness, and abundance—manifestations of peace—is well marked with the unchanging lights of divine Truth and Love. No one can miss the goal who has a mind to work and eyes to see.

From long experience Christian Scientists attest the value of daily reference to the teachings of the Master and the inspired writings of their Leader. Doing this with confidence, sincerity, and joyous expectation of good, they find that each new day becomes more and more a glorious adventure in living and being. For them each dawn unfolds a brighter world of fuller understanding, greater love, and a more permanent peace.
