"BE FREE"

Not in its history has humanity been so near a definite conviction of the futility of reliance upon the material and temporal as at the present time. This period of world readjustment has been marked by a vast tide of confusion and uncertainty, culminating in a universal sense of disappointment in the traditional modes and systems which have long been relied upon for the sustenance and progress of the race and the solution of its problems.

With the failure of accustomed remedies for maladjustment of our political, social, and economic life has come the inevitable lifting of human thought above and beyond the horizon of materiality and mere self-dependence to the search for a genuine, positive, and enduring sense of good. Men are learning that nothing is so greatly to be desired as a firm and unfailing foundation upon which to rest their hope for prosperity, peace, and well-being—their hope to be free.

Too long has humanity failed to realize the error of basing its search for happiness of the false belief that true and lasting freedom can come from the possession of material things and the indulgence of material desires. It is cause for gratitude that men are nearer the realization today than ever before that tangible happiness is a purely mental state, not attained through the mere acquirement of things which, by their very nature, are not permanent or satisfying, but attained through spiritual understanding, which is always manifest in the consciousness of having all that is needed.
