Christian Science was brought into our home when the way seemed very dark and we were hedged about with fears. My mother had for many years suffered from asthma, high blood pressure, and a weak heart. Oftentimes she was kept in bed for some two to three months, and then, after a gradual convalescence, she would be able to move about normally, but was cautioned by the doctors to spend most of her time in an armchair. During one of these periods a friend visited us, and we heard for the first time the glorious words, Christian Science, and learned of the many healings witnessed by this friend. Although these healings seemed to us almost miraculous, we knew that "with God all things are possible." But we had yet to learn the liberating truth that God does not send sickness and that man is made in His own image—perfect.

From the outset many physical ills were completely overcome in a short time, but because of the many fears that had to be dispelled, my mother's healing took a longer time. However, through the consecrated work of a Christian Science practitioner, my mother was lifted from a state of semi-invalidism to one of health and normal activity. For this proof of the healing efficacy of divine Science when it is rightly applied, I shall never cease to be grateful.

At this time every avenue of my life seemed choked with fears. I lived in a state of despair from one day to another. I had been under medical care for some eight to nine years with an inward goiter, which I had come to accept as part of my make-up. After reading the periodicals for some six weeks, I gained sufficient understanding and courage to dispense with the medicine which various doctors had repeatedly told me was my only hope of keeping the goiter in check. When the goiter disappeared I know not, but I do know that in a short time there was not a trace of it. With the help of a devoted practitioner I was led step by step out of a limited, fearful, and miserable existence into one of hope, joy, and spiritual aspiration.
