Twenty years ago I was under constant medical treatment, till the doctors gave up my case. One of my friends told me that it was not necessary to die, because God could heal me. His words surprised me, and I asked him what I had to do to know God. He offered to bring me the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which I gratefully accepted. Immediately I began to read the book and got the impression that not one harsh word was written in it. Thoughts of fear and resentment were overcome, and a great sense of rest came over me.

After studying four chapters I felt one morning so happy and healthy that I dressed myself and told my father that I felt strong enough to take up the cares of the household again. He was astonished to see me, but his anxiety for my health disappeared when he saw, after some weeks, that I was really strong enough to do the work. Some of my friends were so surprised at my healing that they took up the study of Science and became Christian Scientists.

I am deeply grateful that this Science came into my life. I found the way to know God and to overcome such traits of character as self-satisfaction, self-will, hatred, envy, irritation. Grief at the passing on of my father was overcome; a heavy attack of malaria was healed in one treatment, typhoid fever within a week; jaundice was overcome without my giving up my daily tasks; and effects of accidents, burns, and colds were all healed by my knowing that divine Love heals every disease.
