"LOVE IS ENTHRONED"

Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 454): "Human hate has no legitimate mandate and no kingdom. Love is enthroned." If "Love is enthroned" in consciousness, no room remains for hate. If hate has no mandate, it has no mind; hence it has no authority, no agencies through which to act. If hate has no kingdom, it is bereft of the Principle of all true being.

Mrs. Eddy makes clear the remedy for all discord where she says (Unity of Good, p. 49): "To me the reality and substance of being are good, and nothing else. Through the eternal reality of existence I reach, in thought, a glorified consciousness of the only living God and the genuine man. So long as I hold evil in consciousness, I cannot be wholly good." The eradication of all error from human consciousness is the solution, then, to all problems. A glorified consciousness of God and man equipped Christ Jesus to overcome evil and crowned with success his sublime mission of Christian healing. And it was this glorified consciousness, pure, perfect, and sinless, that enabled our Leader likewise to conquer all forms of error and bring forth the fruits of her discovery.

A young student of Christian Science and her family moved into an environment where someone, motivated by hate and envy, engaged in false accusations and malicious gossip and even in attempts to physically harm her. The student's first impulse was to seek refuge in flight. However, her fear was overcome when she saw that error is never conquered, nor is a problem solved, by running away, but that every erroneous situation must be faced and met from the standpoint of God's allness and evil's utter falsity and unreality. Healing, she knew, is achieved when one follows a scientific method of procedure: gaining a right understanding of God and man, and detecting and eradicating hidden faults through self-examination and spiritualization of thought. She saw in the seemingly desperate situation a blessed opportunity for learning lessons of Love.
