I am very grateful for all that...
I am very grateful for all that Christian Science means to me and should like to express my gratitude by telling of a healing. Some time ago I heard a friend express her belief in a common little superstition. "Why, how foolish!" I said. "You certainly don't believe in an inanimate object like that having any power over you, do you? That's just a superstition!" And we all laughed; but I could see that she continued believing her way, while I suddenly had the most beautiful sense of release.
It flashed through my consciousness that that was what Mrs. Eddy meant by her sentence in Science and Health regarding the material senses (p. 318), "They would put soul into soil, life into limbo, and doom all things to decay." This clear thought stayed with me all that day and the next; and I saw how all our beliefs and fears of power in material things are just popular superstitions, while the reality of Life, Spirit, goes on permanently and is never touched by any of them. The power of any superstition lies only in the individual's belief in and fear of it.
