I am indeed grateful for the right...

I am indeed grateful for the right concept of God, the universe, and man learned at home and in the Christian Science Sunday School. These teachings were invaluable to me during my Army service, and they are ever proving helpful in my activities at college.

An outstanding demonstration of God's ever-presence was revealed to me while I was at an Army aviation cadet center a few years ago. After taking a rigid physical examination for flight training, I was informed that my eyes were not good enough to qualify. Orders were for me to report to another examiner in one hour for a second eye test. If at this time my vision did not meet the flight-training standard, I would be eligible for ground duty only. I had been on this post only a few days and had not yet got in touch with the local Christian Science Wartime Minister. For a few moments I was quite fearful and debated whether or not I should try to locate the Wartime Minister. However, the thought soon came that God is ever present and that my help was at hand.

I sat down outside the room where the eye examination was to be given and turned sincerely to God in prayer. The passage on page 586 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was recalled: "Eyes. Spiritual discernment,—not material but mental." I then reasoned that the one Mind, God, sees all and sees perfectly, that man as God's image reflects perfect vision and is not dependent on any material organism for sight. Prayer was continued until the time of the reexamination. I passed this test successfully, as well as every other eye examination which I have taken since that time.
