WORK FOR PEACE

In her article in "Miscellaneous Writings" entitled "Love Your Enemies" (p. 8) Mary Baker Eddy makes it clear that we have no enemies, unless we form them in our thinking. Christian Science supplies the proper remedy for enmity and every ill and shows us how to apply this remedy by destroying all belief in the reality of a creation unlike God, that we may understand aright the allness, onliness, and perfection of God and His creation. We must deny the testimony of the material senses and recognize as the one and only fact the spiritual idea of God and the universe.

Whoever has had an instantaneous healing in Christian Science is a witness to the spiritual fact stated in the Biblical words that God "spake, and it was done" (Ps. 33:9). We must be constantly alert to see the absolute unreality of any material cause and effect and to accept as real the spiritual fact that cause and effect belong to God alone. As individuals and nations perceive this truth, peace will be established. Mrs. Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 467): "It should be thoroughly understood that all men have one Mind, one God and Father, one Life, Truth, and Love. Mankind will become perfect in proportion as this fact becomes apparent, war will cease and the true brotherhood of man will be established."

The following words from the "Daily Prayer" in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy (Art. VIII, Sect. 4), "'Thy kingdom come;' let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin," express the Christian Scientist's fervent desire that his concept of being may increasingly be in conformity with spiritual perfection. Herein all effect proceeds from the divine source and thus annuls any belief in the destructive effects of evil, mortal mind. It is his desire to understand, so surely and exclusively that God governs His universe that the existence of a carnal mind becomes inconceivable.
