Many years ago I was ill, and no medical aid could lift me out of the awful nervous and melancholy state into which I had sunk. At this point Christian Science was presented to me by my sister, who sent me a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy; and because it contained the truths that Christ Jesus taught, the reading of this book completely healed me. It has been my help, comfort, and guide ever since.

I have had many other healings. Bronchitis, influenza, and tonsillitis have all yielded to the understanding of the power of Truth. At one time I was hurrying out of a room when I ran at full tilt against the sharp corner of a counter. The pain for the moment was excruciating, but I had time to recall the facts that there is no sensation in matter and that God is All; then I had to continue with the work in hand.

For some days the pain persisted, and I realized that I could not let it go on. The words in Science and Health (p. 123) came to me, "Divine Science, rising above physical theories, excludes matter, resolves things into thoughts, and replaces the objects of material sense with spiritual ideas." As I dwelt on these lines, all sense of pain and discomfort faded away.
