"OUR GRATITUDE IS RICHES"

A Student of Christian Science became dissatisfied with her electric refrigerator because it was not an up-to-date model. At one time when new appliances were not available, it ceased functioning, and she had to resort to inadequate refrigeration. Once the refrigerator was repaired, however, she was conscious of a sense of gratitude for its efficiency and did not again feel any dissatisfaction with it.

Since that time, when a sense of disparagement in any direction has tempted her, she has dismissed it with the thought: Why should I deliberately indulge in ungrateful thinking, since no good can possibly come from it? I may as well enjoy the blessings which I have and also gratefully acknowledge the absolute fact of the ever-presence of infinite good.

Mary Baker Eddy writes pertinently in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 3): "Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more." And a hymn pertinently declares Christian Science Hymnal, No. 249),
