In the Bible we read (Isa. 54:5),...
In the Bible we read (Isa. 54:5), "Thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name." God, then, is the only real husband, who guards, guides, and protects, the One that supplies all good, the One that gives His angels charge over us to keep us in all our ways.
On a Christmas day many years ago I was getting dinner, expecting a guest, and caring for our little children. My husband became ill that morning and stayed in bed all day. I would know the truth that we learn in Christian Science, and each time the pain would stop, but in a few hours it would start again.
Late in the afternoon after the visitor left, my husband told me he was suffering much more than at any time before. I put the children to bed, and knowing that something must be done, took the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and sat down alone with God. I talked to God, asking Him to show me what I needed to know. If I had done something that I should not, I wanted to correct it. In opening the textbook at random, the first thing I read showed me that I had not corrected the first thought which I had had in the early morning when my husband became ill. It had been: "You just can't be sick! We will not be able to pay our bills." For that moment I had forgotten who the provider of the family really was. I saw the error and acknowledged God alone to be the only source of man's supply for all of His children. I returned to the bedroom feeling that all was well. My husband said: "I am all right now. I believe I can go to sleep." He slept all night and went to work the next morning as usual. This taught me that healing is a correction of thought, and that looking in the wrong direction for supply could send it away.
