Christian Science was brought to me at a time of great physical and mental distress, when I was suffering from nervous prostration, accompanied by ulcers of the stomach, which caused continual nausea. I had become weak and emaciated, going from a hundred and twenty-five pounds to ninety pounds over a period of about a year. The doctors failed to help me, their verdict being that my days of usefulness were over. Up to that time I had lived a very busy life, being the mother of four children, two of whom were married.

I turned sincerely to God, asking Him to reveal Himself to me and to give me another chance to live and serve Him. My prayer was answered when a woman was brought to see me, who, after listening to my complaints, simply said, "You do not have to be in that condition." I replied that I surely did not want to be and asked if she could tell me how to get rid of the torture. I had not heard of Christian Science and did not know that the woman was a practitioner. She left me a Sentinel to read and told me that if I either borrowed or purchased the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I would find out how to be free from my ailments.

I have never ceased to be grateful to that friend. I had not read far in the chapter on Prayer when I felt my need was met. I was instantly healed. The nausea left, and I ate anything that was put before me, having no fear of the foods which the doctor had said I should avoid. That was over thirty years ago, and the healing has been permanent.
