The reading of the will and how to claim your own inheritance

OUR DAILY SUPPLY

In pondering the question of supply and the meeting of their human needs, Christian Scientists turn naturally to that well-loved statement by Mary Baker Eddy in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."

Someone may feel inclined to ask: "How does divine Love meet my human need? Have I any step to take, or do I wait patiently for God to bestow His favors?" Let these questions be answered with the help of an illustration. Suppose that on a bright, sunny morning one were to wake up and find himself in a room with heavy curtains drawn over the windows. Would one wait for the sunlight to penetrate the darkness and light up the room? The answer is, No, he would bestir himself and draw aside the curtains. Then the sunlight would enter freely and dispel the darkness. So in the meeting of our human needs, the light of divine Love is always present, but first we must draw aside the curtain, or veil of material thinking, and allow the light of Truth and Love to illumine our outlook and to spiritualize our consciousness. Then it will be found that divine Love comes to meet us and to supply our human needs. If we will play our part earnestly and honestly, we shall find that divine Love is ever ready to meet our need and to help us.

In the parable of the prodigal son there is a clear example of just such loving care. The prodigal through his misdeeds found himself in dire want, but "when he came to himself" and "arose, and came to his father,... his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him." Thus it is with us in Christian Science. We need to come to ourselves, in other words to drop the material outlook, the seeking after material pleasures and material things, and with humility to recognize ourselves as we really are, ideas of God, spiritual and perfect. In this turning or returning to God, divine Principle, in humility and love, we find that our heavenly Father, far from being cold and hard, is tender and loving. He comes to meet us, feeding, sustaining, healing, and blessing us.
