The unfailing method for reaching the right decision
ARE WE LISTENING?
The ease with which listeners can turn off a radio program which lacks interest for them and tune in on a station featuring more desirable entertainment suggests a parallel in the experience of Christian Scientists.
Are we listening to the sordid tales of the so-called carnal mind, with its grim suggestions of lack and loneliness, sorrow and sickness, discord and failure, or to the voice of Truth and Love, with its perpetual message of abundance, peace, joy, purity, harmony, and success? The former present the illusions of spurious material existence. Like the fictitious radio drama, these accounts may seem to be real. They express the belief of life and intelligence in matter, false concepts of existence apart from ever-present and omnipotent God, good. They would invest matter with power and seek to make the human consciousness accept its false claims.
Christian Science teaches that the voice of God, which is heard only when the material senses have been silenced, speaks of the perfection of His creation. The omnipotent One cannot be heard if self-will and self-love are pervading thought. In their stead, humility should prevail, together with an earnest desire to obey God's commands and to forsake the material concept of man as imperfect, subject to sin, sickness, and death. God's message brings assurance of the unbounded energy of Spirit, the gracious beauty of Soul, the unerring government of divine Principle. It tenderly reminds us of man's identity as the child of God, the forever heir to the impartial abundance of Love, the buoyant activity of Life, the wisdom and intelligence of Mind.
