THE APPEARING OF GOD'S CHILDREN

"God's children already created will be cognized only as man finds the truth of being. Thus it is that the real, ideal man appears in proportion as the false and material disappears." These words by Mary Baker Eddy are found on page 69 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

The appearance of God's children to human sense hinges upon obedience to the two great commandments which Christ Jesus gave (Matt. 22:37, 39): "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind," and, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." We cannot love our neighbor until we love ourself. And we cannot love ourself until we understand ourself and know it to be inseparable from God. This is forcefully expressed in these words of a hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal (No. 20):
