The hightest standard of living and the individual cost

"ASK YOURSELF"

"Ask yourself: Am I living the life that approaches the supreme good? Am I demonstrating the healing power of Truth and Love? If so, then the way will grow brighter 'unto the perfect day.' Your fruits will prove what the understanding of God brings to man." So writes Mary Baker Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p.496).

Mrs. Eddy often asks questions of her readers, and she evidently considered such questioning of great value in awakening thought, encouraging receptivity, and doing away with complacency. However, in this case she tells us to ask ourselves a question which, when closely considered, shows the standard for the highest type of living that could be expected or hoped for among humankind.

Humanity in general is in search of happiness and good, though sometimes this good is sought in directions other than that in which true goodness is to be found. As it becomes more clearly understood that good is another name for God, mankind will turn its search towards God, divine Love, for true happiness; indeed, for everything in life that is spiritual and satisfying.
