Signs of the Times
A. W. Fortune in an article in Front Rank, St. Louis, Missouri
Jesus ... said the first and great commandment is to love God, and the second, which is like unto it, is to love one's neighbor. He said on these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. The one who loves God will give Him the first place in his life. The one who loves his neighbor will fulfill his obligations to him. He will find in his own experience that "love is the fulfilling of the law." ...
Jesus declared that he came not to destroy the law but to fulfill it. He embodied in his life the principles of the law, and one who follows him will be living according to the highest law. It is possible for one to keep the letter of the law and yet miss its spirit entirely. The one who has the spirit of Christ will find that the law is being fulfilled in his life. The spirit of Christ will give us a new appreciation of God's law and the laws of our country.
