Protection received during service in two wars
If ever one had supreme cause for gratitude to God, to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, I am certainly such a person.
The healing and regenerative power of Christian Science has been available to me practically throughout a lifetime, save as a child while I was in the hands of relatives who were totally ignorant of this Science and bitterly hostile toward it. Space does not permit more than a brief summary of the many proofs which I and those dear to me have experienced.
My first healing occurred in infancy when I was suffering from an ailment which had taken a heavy toll among young children in the midwestern city where we then lived and for which medical science was vainly seeking a remedy. When, in the words of our hymn (No. 224), it became apparent that "all material streams [were] dried," and the end was near, my mother left our home at night to seek help of one of the very few authorized practitioners of Christian Science known in that locality at the time. Results of her loving work were immediately evidenced, and I was restored to health.
