The awakening to man's true selfhood destroys the illusion of discord
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE REVEALS MAN'S REAL IDENTITY
Man , created in the image and likeness of God, Spirit, is spiritual and perfect. As the expression of infinite Spirit, divine Principle, he is coexistent with Spirit. He is endowed with all the attributes requisite to image forth the divine Principle which created him and is uninterruptedly maintaining him. Demonstrating this spiritual fact, Jesus healed both blindness and deafness and caused the dumb to speak, the lame to walk, and the demented to live normal lives.
In a penetrating commentary on his demonstrations, Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" writes (p. 210), "Knowing that Soul and its attributes were forever manifested through man, the Master healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, feet to the lame, thus bringing to light the scientific action of the divine Mind on human minds and bodies and giving a better understanding of Soul and salvation."
From the human viewpoint, the works of Jesus consisted in bringing about certain desirable and longed-for material changes. It was ever his way to address those whom he helped in the language they were then best able to understand. Thus, to the blind man who called out to him on the Jericho road Jesus said (Luke 18:42), "Receive thy sight." To human sense, Jesus simply complied with the blind man's prayer and restored his sight. Metaphysically speaking, however, his achievement established the fact that sight—a spiritual attribute, not a personal physical possession—had never been lost, but was "forever manifested through man" as inherent in his spiritual identity.
