It is my desire to express through...
It is my desire to express through our periodicals my gratitude for Christian Science, because I owe so much to this great truth and to Mary Baker Eddy, its Discoverer and Founder.
When I was a small boy about ten years old, I became ill with typhoid fever, and it appeared that I should not recover. My parents were at that time new students of Christian Science, and a practitioner was asked to work for me, but I continued to sink until it seemed that I should soon die. My grandparents and other relatives were much opposed to what they thought Christian Science to be, and my mother became quite fearful that if I should not live, she would be blamed for not having had medical attention for me. One night when struggling with fear and indecision, she turned to the Holy Bible, and as she opened it at random, her eyes fell on these words: "Choose you this day whom ye will serve" (Josh. 24:15). She immediately decided that it would be God and Christian Science all the way; so the practitioner was called and told of this decision, and work for me was resumed. My quick and complete healing then followed.
After attending the Christian Science Sunday School for several years and learning somewhat of this great truth, I drifted away from it, ceased to study and use it, and for more than fifteen years followed the way of a sinful mortal. About eleven years ago I became very ill, and my ability to survive this illness appeared doubtful. One day I suddenly remembered that I had in a trunk a copy of the Bible and of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. My mother had given these to me when I enlisted in World War I. These books were taken from the trunk, where they had lain unused for man years, and I began to study them. As a result I was soon completely restored to health.
