I should like to express my gratitude...

I should like to express my gratitude to God and my appreciation for Christian Science.

When I was a small child, my brother and I were placed in a Christian Science Sunday School on the invitation of a friend. Our parents did not accept Christian Science for themselves, and later my brother chose to affiliate with another church, but I am deeply grateful that I continued in the Sunday School. Although I was not able to choose Christian Science help when there were physical problems, I did, in my late teens, recognize its healing and releasing power by feeling the beginning of freedom from the tormenting yet selfish belief of self-consciousness. Then, in time of immediate need, when hurrying for a streetcar as I left school, I sprained my ankle. The pain was entirely met during the ride as I put into practice Mrs. Eddy's admonition (Science and Health, p. 392), "Stand porter at the door of thought." This had been impressed upon us in our Sunday School instruction. At that time I did not know the words of our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 210), "Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them." In standing porter, this is just what I did, and the healing was speedily realized. There was no swelling nor discoloration.

I have enjoyed many years of complete reliance on Christian Science through membership in The Mother Church and active service in a branch church. Through this serving I have a better appreciation of our Leader's wisdom in establishing The Mother Church and its branches and of the church organization's place in our experience. The personal growth through this activity is priceless.
