"The Lord is the portion of mine...

"The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintained my lot. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage" (Ps. 16:5, 6). These verses are becoming more and more meaningful to me as the days follow one another in happy, harmonious activity.

Early in 1940, while pondering whether I should "come out from among them, and be ... separate" (II Cor. 6: 17), I was seeking help from a loving Christian Science practitioner. One day I said to her, "You know I am not a religious person," meaning that I did not then believe I should care to become interested in Christian Science to the extent of becoming a church member. In other words, I wanted the crown without the cross. In answering my statement, she wisely said, "You believe in a recipe for baking a cake, don't you?" When I replied in the affirmative, she continued, "Christian Science is a recipe for everyday living." It is indeed a golden rule for living and one every person is seeking.

Since then the wonderful privilege of membership in both The Mother Church and a branch church has been mine; the opportunity to serve in the branch church has brought hours of joy; and class instruction has been the greatest thing in my life.
