MAN'S INHERITANCE

Christian Science reveals the fact that man's only parent is God, Spirit, and that as the offspring of Spirit he is spiritual, not material. Mary Baker Eddy states in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 63): "In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being." The correct understanding of our only true selfhood is important, because in the proportion that we understand man's spiritual sonship we shall not be deceived by the fraudulent laws of matter which claim to govern man.

The realization that God is man's Father-Mother unfolds his spiritual heritage of perfection, dominion, power, intelligence, courage, health, joy, and the like. The children of God have ever been conscious of their inheritance of good. This good which God bestows upon man can never be interrupted, diverted, or interfered with by mindless matter or the insidious suggestions of the so-called mortal mind, because harmony is the law of man's being. The harmony of man, the expression of God, is independent of matter.

False education wrongly instructs mankind to believe that a law of heredity exists which subjects one to certain illnesses, that these illnesses are inescapable and eventually will come into his experience. The understanding, however, that divine Life is the Life of man operates as a law to destroy these errors of belief and ensures the certainty of man's perfection. The evidence of the five physical senses has never been true and cannot be associated with God's perfect, spiritual man. The man of God's creating, His image, forever expresses the perfection of his creator.
