BY JACOB'S WELL
Her
daily task at Sychar, by the well
That Jacob gave to Joseph.
Serving, ready
To listen and to learn,
The woman came
And took away what she could not have drawn
From Jacob's well of water.
There a Jew
Took humbly from a pagan. And the pagan,
Converted, knew that she had found the Christ.
And others, thirsting, found the living water
Accepted by one open-minded, ready
To reject barrier of race or creed,
One ready
To be freed.
