ARISE AND SPEAK!

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

A Young Christian Scientist had been wanting for a long time to testify to the healing power of Christian Science at a Wednesday evening meeting. Several times she mentally prepared testimonies, but the arguments of fear and shyness presented themselves, and she was never able to rise to her feet.

One Wednesday evening, when she was many miles from home touring with a group of musicians, she attended a small branch church. When the Reader announced the time for the giving of testimonies and remarks on Christian Science, she found herself on her feet expressing gratitude. What she said was simple, but alight with deep sincerity and conviction. It was only after the meeting that she realized that the overwhelming sense of fear of speaking in public which had kept her in bondage all through her school days had disappeared. She was free.

God rewards right motives. It was pointed out to this young student that perhaps the testimonies which she had previously prepared she could not give because she was in a way trying to glorify herself through them. When she finally gave her testimony, it was in the simplicity of gratitude, from the desire to share with others a meaningful experience.
