The ever-presence of good is...

The ever-presence of good is demonstrable here and now. I first realized this truth while studying the Bible in connection with the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

When I was young in the study of Christian Science, an unforgettable demonstration was instantaneously made. This was the healing of what an ear, nose, and throat specialist called diseased tonsils, the effects of which had plagued me since early childhood. My faith in God enabled me to ignore the physician's advice to have the tonsils removed. After I took up the study of Christian Science and had a limited understanding of Truth, I ignored the frequent occurrences of sore throat, tonsillitis, and earache. This ignoring of error finally called for a handling of it. Error suggested apathy, arguing: You have read the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly each day this week and you have not received any help from it. You have just been reading words. Take a nap. When you awaken, you may feel better; you will at least be free from pain while you are asleep.

I am grateful that I recognized this thought as coming from error. I answered aloud, "There is truth enough in this one Lesson to heal me, and I will study it until I understand it." The words quickly began to have a meaning. On page 496 of our textbook a few lines beyond the citation given in the Lesson, I read, "Hold perpetually this thought,—that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific certainty, the rule of healing, based upon its divine Principle, Love, underlying, overlying, and encompassing all true being." While reading this statement I realized that I was healed. By the time I had reread it, every symptom of diseased tonsils had vanished, and I have had no further trouble since that time, which was in 1935.
