CLAIMING THE MIND OF CHRIST

On page 591 of "Science and Health with key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we find the spiritual definition of man: "The compound idea of infinite Spirit; the spiritual image and likeness of God; the full representation of Mind."

Throughout Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy uses the word "Mind" as one of the seven synonyms for God. A dictionary tells us that a synonym is "one of two or more words of the same language having the same or nearly the same essential meaning." Therefore God and Mind are one and the same.

We read in the first chapter of Genesis (verse 27), "So God created man in his own image." If we have been thinking of ourselves as ill, discouraged, unattractive, of an unlovely disposition, friendless, unemployed, without a place in which to live, in fact lacking in any good thing, we can rejoice and give thanks, because such conditions are not true of man, the image and likeness of God, the representative of Mind. Since Mind, God, is All, He bestows only good on man. Then whence come these unhappy conditions just named? They are lies of mortal mind, believed by mortals to be true about man and hence imaged forth in their daily experience.
