GRATITUDE

When I remember how my trust in Thee
Has led me through the wilderness of years,
Healing all pain and wiping dry my tears,
And clearing, through the dark, a space to see
The heavenly light of Love delivering me
From all that flesh inherits, all arrears
Of error entertained, till there appears
God's man in me and all men, blessedly,

Gratitude rises in me like a tide
That swells to rich fulfillment, and I long
To spread the truth around me far and wide
To help the sad world to grow wise and strong.
And yet I know that words may lose their wings;
But daily deeds are swift and potent things.
