NO DUAL OUTLOOK

Janus , the ancient Roman god of all beginnings, was represented as having two opposite faces: one looked forward and the other backward. The student of Christian Science has no such dual outlook. He knows that it is impossible to entertain two opposite views —spirituality and materiality—but misguided humanity attempts to find God through the opposites of Spirit and matter.

Having but one outlook, the spiritual, we cannot think good thoughts while talking error. Let us, unlike Janus, look forward only to Life, Truth, and Love, acknowledging and obeying the law of good.

Only through spiritual sense is reality comprehended. Looking into Mind, we discover the truth about God, man, and the universe. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 262): "We cannot fathom the nature and quality of God's creation by diving into the shallows of mortal belief. We must reverse our feeble flutterings—our efforts to find life and truth in matter— and rise above the testimony of the material senses, above the mortal to the immortal idea of God."
