SERVING GOD

How very inspiring it is for the present-day student of Christian Science to read of the love, devotion, and enthusiasm of the pioneer workers who helped to establish the Cause of Christian Science! They had been awakened by their beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, to a demonstrable knowledge of God. They saw that to know and love God was to serve Him in sincerity and truth.

Jesus in his day inspired men and women by what he taught them of his Father and theirs. Truly, one can serve God only as one knows Him; therefore an unknown God cannot be served. History shows that the pure teachings and healing ministry of Christianity were lost sight of from about three hundred years after the advent of Jesus until Christian Science again lighted the torch of spiritual understanding and the healing of sickness once more was accomplished through spiritual means.

Let each one ask himself these questions: Am I learning more about God and serving Him better every day? Or am I letting some form of error or mortal mind keep me from daily study of the Bible and our Leader's writings? Is the carnal mind whispering to me that it does not make any difference if I miss church services, Sunday School, or lectures?
