THE PROMISED LAND

An acquaintance once said to a student of Christian Science, "I have been traveling from place to place looking for the promised land, but I have never found it." Since he himself had found the promised land in Christian Science, the student assured his acquaintance that he need look no farther.

Mary Baker Eddy defines Christian Science "as the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony" (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1). Nothing can ever change "the law of God, the law of good," which governs this perfect creation.

One unenlightened by the teachings of Christian Science, knowing not the promised land—the realization of God and of His perfect creation—might take exception to the statement that creation is perfect and say, "I see an imperfect creation; it is constantly before my gaze." The student of Christian Science would reply, "It is but a misconception of creation you see, the negative opposite of the one and only perfect creation."
