SPIRITUAL LIGHT

The self-revelations of Deity are often associated with light or spiritual illumination. The Scriptures begin with God's command first heard by mankind (Gen. 1:3): "Let there be light." Near their close (Rev. 21:23) it is the lamb of God, Scriptural symbol of divine Love's spiritual idea, that lightens the city of God, the universal realm of Mind. Innocence and purity are prophesied as having overcome the darkness of mortal ignorance, and sin has disappeared. God as infinite Mind, sinless Soul, is understood, His glorious creation revealed.

The beloved John, summing up the true import of the Master's message, wrote to the early Christian churches (I John 1:5) "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." Christian Science reveals God as having no consciousness of evil, but as destroying error through the self-assertion of His sinless presence.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, writes in "No and Yes" (p. 30): "It is Truth's knowledge of its own infinitude which forbids the genuine existence of even a claim to error. This knowledge is light wherein there is no darkness,—not light holding darkness within itself. The consciousness of light is like the eternal law of God, revealing Him and nothing else." The understanding of God as the only Mind destroys the belief of evil mentality, and in the light of this understanding the errors and limitations of human experience disappear. This is spiritual healing.
