BEAUTY IN THE HIGHEST
If
beauty in the highest is our aim,
our being's end,
each thought we think—remember it, the same
is enemy or friend—
will push us from or aid us towards the goal,
each single thought.
Pure thoughts from God wing and lead on the soul
to the perfection sought,
and fix the gaze, the thought, on perfect God.
the beauty of His face,
the beauty which we love and which we laud,
the grandeur of God's grace.
The beauty on us then as it must be
of the adored.
Our lives partake of His tranquillity,
all sweet accord!
Since beauty in the highest is our aim.
our being's end,
each thought we think—remember it, the same
is enemy or friend.
