I should like to express my gratitude...
I should like to express my gratitude for Christian Science. I have been a student of this Science since childhood and have had many healings of disease, lack, sin, and results of accidents. However, I should like to relate an instance of supply worked out through Christian Science during the years of World War II.
My husband was a naval officer. At one time during his service he was stationed in California, where he thought he would be for some time, and I joined him there with our two small children. Only five days after I had made the trip from the East Coast, he was suddenly informed that he was to be shipped overseas for the second time. At this turn of events he was overwhelmed with fear and remorse at bringing us west without a home. However, we knew that "all things work together for good to them that love God" (Rom. 8:28). Mrs. Eddy, in explaining why this is true, says in part (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 10): "Because He has called His own, armed them, equipped them, and furnished them defenses impregnable. Their God will not let them be lost; and if they fall they shall rise again, stronger than before the stumble."
We put our whole trust in divine Love. All trace of fear had gone. The next day we moved into a house which had no cooking stove, no heater, and no telephone, and which needed carpentry work done on a door. However, I assured my husband that we were not a mortal family caught in the bad living conditions of the war, but God's perfect ideas, "hid with Christ in God" (Col. 3:3); and he went aboard ship with freer step. That night the children coughed the greater part of the night. The house was without heat, and a draft came through the house because the door and part of the wall were gone. I stayed up all night, firm in my understanding of Mrs. Eddy's statement (Miscellaneous Writings. p. 277), "No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme." In the morning the children were free.
