Mary Baker Eddy writes in...
Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scripture"(p. 254), "Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God." The desire for a true concept of home led to the study of this reference and also the definition of "heaven" given on page 587 of our textbook.
At one time it seemed wise to dispose of the house which we had always considered home. About six days before the new owner was to occupy it, I stood in the kitchen packing dishes. There was much to be accomplished, and a sense of the impossibility of completing the numerous tasks almost overwhelmed me. The first lines of Mrs. Eddy's hymn, "Feed My Sheep" (Poems, p.14), became an earnest prayer. A few moments later there were footsteps on the porch, and a loved member of my family whom I had not seen for many months entered. He had been granted an unexpected furlough and had traveled some sixteen hundred miles. That was Monday. The following Saturday night the last task was completed and the next morning he returned to an Army camp. If I had outlined humanly with whom I should like to work out this experience it would have been this individual, he being the only member of my family who is interested in Christian Science.
Sometime later when the opportunity presented itself for the establishment of the correct sense of home in another state, diligent study was made of the above-mentioned definition of "heaven," particular stress and thought being given to the phrases "government by divine Principle" and "the atmosphere of Soul." The study of the word "Principle" led to the true recognition of the words "source" and "foundation," while the word "Soul" brought to thought man's constant, at-one-ment with God. Shortly after application was made, an apartment was obtained which filled all requirements. All furniture, pieces of which had been stored or newly purchased or received as gifts, when assembled, fitted in most harmoniously. Throughout the past three years it has been a joy to share this concept of home with many friends.
