Love's Compensation
I do
not grieve because the way is strait,
Because it narrows to the heavenly gate,
For Love illumines it with light so great,
Outshining hate.
I cannot fear if storms of earth seem wild,
Nor by their angry threats am I beguiled.
Love whispers, "All is well," and God has smiled
On me, His child.
I shall not shrink from taking up my cross;
Uplifted by the loving Christ, I toss
Aside earth's treasures, yielding up their dross,
And know no loss.
