Man's Life Is Changeless and Continuous

"That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past." To some this aphorism contained in Ecclesiastes might seem a cause for pessimism, but Christian Science teaches that God is infinite divine Mind, the creative Principle, all-inclusive, ever-present, omnipotent good, in which man's life and selfhood are established and maintained as changeless and continuous.

As this fact of man's conscious spiritual unity with divine Mind or Life unfolds in our consciousness, we awake to the inconsistency of rationalizing on what might have been, for in the omnipresent, uninterrupted allness of good what might have been good in reality is. When a sense of grief and sorrow would assail us, or when suggestions of regret over what might have been would overpower our peace and happiness, Christian Science reveals true Life to be divine consciousness, or God, who unfolds the changeless identity and true individuality of all His ideas.

To the writer the argument of sorrow seemed very persistent when a dear one, whose companionship she treasured, passed on. Holding thought steadfastly to the true sense of Life as infinite and eternal, she was able to maintain her awareness of what man is as the image and likeness of God. She realized that sustaining comfort and lasting peace are experienced only through the clear recognition of the changeless oneness of being, the indivisible, forever at-one-ment of God and man.
