With the thought that it may...
With the thought that it may help others in a similar situation, I submit the following testimony.
Recently, while seeking employment. I was distressed and discouraged by what seemed to me undue emphasis placed on age and college education. Also, I received little encouragement in my wish to change from the type of business with which I had been connected for many years to another which might increase my usefulness. After several days it became evident that my only hope of being able to face the next day with any assurance lay in earnestly applying the teachings of Christian Science and freeing my thought from its fear-filled contemplations. The Lesson-Sermon for that week included the passage (Ps. 90:16). "Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children." I prayed to know that my God-given talents would be used in His service, for His glory, that their use could not be limited or obstructed, and I continued such prayer until my poise was regained.
The following day brought tests of my steadfastness, but on the morning following that, I was employed at the salary I was accustomed to receiving, without the usual lengthy application form and without reference to age or education. Stress was laid on the qualities required by a type of work with which I was unfamiliar, and during the time I have held the position I have found ample opportunity to express honesty, kindness, intelligence, efficiency, and to make fuller use of previous business experience. Truly, I have found Christian Science to be the Comforter promised by Christ Jesus.
