"Stop the interference!"
It is a common occurrence at a football game to hear spectators encourage the team they favor to "stop the interference." This means that the opposition is progressing, and that the favored ones are not progressing. If the preferred team is to advance, in accordance with the rules of the game, they must increase their activity, reverse the trend of play, and block the interference.
In the study and practice of Christian Science there are times in our daily lives or in cases we are called upon to heal when interfering beliefs must be stopped, annulled, and replaced with the facts of being, before progress and healing can be realized. Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 402), "The time approaches when mortal mind will forsake its corporeal, structural, and material basis, when immortal Mind and its formation, will be apprehended in Science, and material beliefs will not interfere with spiritual facts."
How do we forsake the material beliefs that interfere with our demonstration of health, harmony, and happiness; how do we "stop the interference"? The word "interference" has the meaning of obstacle, hindrance, and disturbance. What can be an obstacle to the Mind that is God; what could possibly be a hindrance or disturbance to omnipotent Truth? In Christian Science, as we realize the omnipresence and omnipotence of God, good, we become conscious of man's freedom from those things which are contrary to His spiritual creation and all-harmonious government.
