[Original testimony in German]

It has long been a neglected duty...

It has long been a neglected duty of mine to give public thanks for all the good that has come to me through the daily application of Christian Science. In 1933 I was for the first time told of a religion which could be proved logically and could be applied to any trouble. I had grown up without any real religion, and the Ten Commandments had long been forgotten.

I was very much depressed, and thinking I had nothing to lose I decided to try Christian Science. I attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting and was impressed by the atmosphere of tranquillity, assurance, and harmony there. I bought a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and studied it, without however understanding very much. But the teaching began to interest me, and I applied the little that I understood. I was surprised by the results, and they induced me to study more seriously.

I remember one healing in particular. When my oldest daughter was not quite six months old, she fell from a height of about one meter (three feet and four inches) to the tiled floor of the bathroom. I had wrapped the child well and left her alone for a moment, and when I came back I found her on the floor with blood flowing from her mouth. My fear was terrific; but I kept saying out loud: "Nothing can happen to you. God is everywhere, and He does not permit anything to happen to you. He loves you."
