BEHIND THE MASK

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Ruth had attended her first Halloween party, wearing a costume her mother had made. It had been a very happy party, and everyone had had lots of fun. "What did you like the best?" Mother asked.

The little girl thought for a few minutes and then replied: "I think the very best part was when they all took off their masks. Some of them were so silly, and some so frightening that it was good to get them off and just see Bob, Betty, George, and the others."

A few days later both Mother and Ruth had occasion to remember this reply. Ruth came home from school in tears. Two papers had been handed in to the teacher with the very same answers. One had been Ruth's. When called before the teacher, the other child had insisted that Ruth had copied her work. The teacher had been very severe with Ruth, and the fact that it had happened before the whole class had almost broken the little girl's heart.
