I should like to express my gratitude...

I should like to express my gratitude to God and to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for giving us Christian Science.

For a number of years I have been a student of this Science, but one healing stands out in my thinking above the rest. At this time I was helping a neighbor with some plumbing in his basement, using a gasoline blow torch. He went upstairs to get something, and I thought I would pump some air into the torch so as to be ready to work when he came back. As I did so, the pump sprayed gasoline over my bare arms and face, which immediately ignited. I remembered a bundle of cloth on a box near by, so I smothered the flames with it. When I reached home a member of my family called a Christian Science practitioner for help. By that time I was walking the floor in pain.

The practitioner sent word to me that I was to lie down and be quiet. I did not see how I could even stand still because of the pain, but I thought I would try to be obedient. So I lay down, and words cannot tell of the healing that took place—the pain left entirely. When the practitioner arrived, she called a Christian Science nurse to help her care for the burns, for they were of all degrees from first to third.
